What if my economic damages are not substantial?
If you feel your attorney did not perform his or her duties to their utmost ability, but an attorney has informed you your economic damages are not substantial, disciplinary action can still be taken.
Mediation provides a way to resolve the dispute you have with your attorney. A neutral mediator will help to resolve the issue amongst the disagreeing parties and attempt to reach an agreeable solution. The Florida Bar Mediation Program provides these services for the state of Florida.
Arbitration is similar to mediation, only differing in that the parties agree in advance to accept the findings of a neutral arbitrator.
Filing a grievance or complaint is another option frequently used. These can be filed with your state bar association or with the state or federal court in your area.
